Google has filed a complaint with the European Commission to highlight the practice of anti-competitive implemented by Microsoft in the computer cloud. The company's Redmond charged with the crime that he has been abused by its position strong in the market to prevent the passing on of a service, other than Azure. In between the two Big Tech's lasted for more than a couple of years (it is also in the United Kingdom and the United States).
Clash in the clouds
The leaders of the current market share of the cloud, are Microsoft and Amazon Web Service. Google ranked the third in a part of the market is less than 10%. According to the company's Mountain View, Microsoft relies on the client for use on Windows, to prevent it from shifting in the service industry.
The complaint says that only Windows can be used in Azure, without spending anything. However, if a customer decides to use the Windows in-one service to another cloud, Microsoft introduced a “fine”, then the growth of the payment (up to 400%) for the license of the new Windows Server.
Amit Zavery, Vice President of Google Cloud, said that the European Commission should be required, Microsoft-in to remove those limits. If a customer has already paid for a license, he should also be able to use each platform for the cloud. The complaint does not lead automatically to the initiation of formal proceedings. An investigation is preliminary, has launched over a year ago, but there is no news for this one. An investigation of the firm is taking place in the UK, and will be completed by October 2025.
Microsoft recently signed a deal with the CISPE to put an end to the conflict, which started in the year 2022. Google had offered to the providers of the cloud computing 470 million euros, in order to prevent the deal, but the amount was rejected.
A spokesperson for Microsoft said:
Microsoft settled the friendly issues like that have been raised by the provider in the european, to the cloud, while Google was hoping that they would go on to be accused them. As I did not manage to persuade european companies, and we expect that Google will fail to convince the European Commission.
